As India battles the severe COVID-19 second wave, UHRC social facilitators conducted an awareness session in the slums of Indore. The sessions were conducted in open, well-ventilated spaces where no more than 10 people were present. The sessions were conducted in three batches to avoid overcrowding. The women were provided with masks and face shields and were made to sit 1 meters apart. During the session, several important precautions were discussed to prevent transmission of COVID-19 infection. These included -
a) Handwashing with soap and water several times during the day especially after touching possible contaminated surfaces.
b) Avoiding gatherings of large number and staying at home as much as possible.
c) Wearing masks covering mouth and nose at all times.
d) Eating protein rich food items such as whole wheat chana (chickpeas), lentils to build immunity to fight against the disease.
e) Using forearm sleeve to cover the mouth while coughing or sneezing instead of hand to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission
