Girls Facing Abuse Need Protection & Self-Defense

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank you for your support toward the Self-Defense: Taekwondo for Girls Facing SGBV project. Your kindness and concern for vulnerable girls are greatly appreciated. However, the donations received so far are not enough to begin the project yet, and more support is still needed.

Many girls across Northern Nigeria continue to face sexual and gender-based violence, exploitation, unsafe street hawking conditions, and harmful silence around abuse. Poverty, fear, and lack of protection leave many girls vulnerable to violence both within and outside their communities.

Without preventive support and safety education, many girls remain at risk of assault, trauma, school dropout, early pregnancy, and long-term emotional harm.

This project is designed to provide Taekwondo self-defense training, safety education workshops, emergency whistles and alarms, and awareness sessions for 2,500 at-risk girls and young women. The program will also teach participants about personal safety, danger recognition, reporting pathways, and confidence-building skills.

With the right support, more girls can gain practical self-protection skills, improve their confidence, and become better prepared to respond to unsafe situations while continuing their education and daily activities more safely.

We remain grateful for the support received so far and hopeful that additional donations will make it possible to begin this important girls’ safety and protection project soon.

Thank you for your kindness and continued support.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
Project Leader
