Self-defense for girls in India is not a sport or a pastime — it's not about having fun with friends. For girls in India, it means a fundamental shift in how they see themselves, their future opportunities, their safety, and their ability to live a healthy, self-determined life with dignity.
Through our project "Self-Defense for Girls in India," we support girls from low-income, vulnerable communities with a comprehensive 25-hour training held over three consecutive days. The curriculum combines mental, verbal, and physical techniques — from escape holds and counter-attacks to assertiveness and humor — empowering girls to handle everything from street harassment to violence in their own homes.
Our local partner organization, TBMSG Nagpur, brings a wide range of experience to this work. Their core areas of activity include ethics education and training through retreats, meditation, workshops, seminars, and talks; women's empowerment; promoting gender equality; educational work; developing leadership skills among young people; providing shelter for girls through hostels; and self-defense training. We're grateful to have such an experienced and capable partner, one who can give these girls a genuine perspective for the future.
Direct beneficiaries include schoolgirls, students, nursing trainees, and working women. Each year, the program reaches around 200 children aged 8 to 11, 800 young people aged 12 to 25, and 300 adult women aged 26 to 40.
With your support, together we're building strong momentum against violence toward girls and women in India.
Thank you for being part of this!
