Owen is our latest Service Dog grant recipient! He will be receiving his Seizure Response Service Dog from 4 Paws for Ability and we are so excited for him! It will be some time before he is matched with his service dog, but a dog has now been put into training for him. It is not a quick process. We promise to update when this team is joined.
Funds for this grant were provided in memory of a beautiful young lady, Delaney Hughes, taken too soon.
Service dogs bring so much peace to those suffering with seizures. Did you know that a service dog can be trained to alert to a seizure, notifying parents and caregivers that a seizure is occuring. Service dogs can be trained to the specific needs of their handler, whether it be bracing a fall, bringing life-saving rescue medications to a caregiver during a seizure, protecting from harm during a seizure and/or licking or stimulating the patient to reduce the length of the seizure. They are a lot of work for the families, but so worth it.
Thank you for your support of this program. We are overwhelmed with the number of requests for assistance as these service dogs are not inexpensive. We currently have 18 individuals we are working for to help bring amazing teams together.
