By Lauren Dreyer | SEED Facilitator
Dear GlobalGiving Donors,
This report updates you on SEED's activities during the first four months of 2024.
Loss and Growth
Our SEED family suffered a devastating loss in April. Facilitator Abona and her young daughter were tragically victims of gender-based violence. Abona's dedication and warm smile will be deeply missed. We honour her memory and continue to support those affected by this tragedy.
New Leadership and Program Highlights
As the new Operations Director joining SEED in January, Logie Soobramoney had the privilege of attending SEED’s Accredited Permaculture Training (APT) course graduation ceremony in February. Witnessing the positive impact of the organisation’s programs on participants was truly inspiring. One participant who finished Grade 12 as a top learner in her Mitchell Plain school, faced challenges with university applications due to her being a foreign national. After participating in the APT program, her mother reported a remarkable change – renewed hope and plans to pursue the follow-on Resilience course in July 2024.
Food Security Initiatives and sustainability
SEED's food gardens continue to contribute to the Rocklands Primary soup kitchen. While harvests were initially affected by the harsh summer, they have since rebounded and are providing plentiful produce.
Approximately 150 learners benefit from the nutritious, organic vegetables daily.
The Easy Peasy Nursery autumn seed trays, distributed in March, are now bringing fresh vegetables to the tables of over forty-four households. Winter trays are currently being nurtured for June distribution.
Gratitude and Looking Forward
We are incredibly grateful for your continued support through GlobalGiving. Your generosity allows us to empower individuals and communities through education and sustainable food security initiatives. We are also excited to announce plans for program expansion to a new Mitchell Plain school!
We look forward to sharing further updates in our next report. With your help, we can continue the work that we are doing and achieve more!
