Project Report | Dec 5, 2018
CCP Project Report, December 2018

By Colm Byrne | Director of Development

Everyday, parents across Cambodia have to decide whether to send their child to school or to work. Many children work in the fields to ensure that their family has enough income to survive. These children miss many school days or do not attend school at all. Thom’s family do not have to make this choice thanks to SeeBeyondBorders’ Conditional Cash Payment Programme. Thom is a child who lives in the Angkor Thom District of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Thom is in grade four in public school and his family are supported thanks to our Conditional Cash Payment Programme.

SeeBeyondBorders’ Conditional Cash Payment Programme provides financial support to families of lower income. Small cash payments are made to the families, conditional on their children attending school regularly. This helps to relieve some financial pressure, so that children like Thom can stay in school. Thanks to our recent crowdfunding campaign on GlobalGiving we raised $6,864 from 105 donations. We are providing financial support to 32 lower-income families in the Angkor Thom District. This support is a lifeline to families, providing small payments conditional on attendance. We also provide bikes as a means for children to get to school. In short we do everything to make it possible for families to prioritise their child’s education as a viable option.

If you would like to read more about the work we do to improve the quality of education in Cambodian schools, our annual report has just been published and is available here.

Thank you for your support!
