Since the start of turtle conservation season in June 2024, our project has been filled with hope and dedication. So far, we have recorded a total of 267 events, distributed as follows:

  • Successful Nest: When the nest is in good condition at the time of monitoring: 115 events (43.1%)
  • Unsuccessful NestWhen the turtle made an attempt to perform the spawning action, but something stopped it (light, water, human presence, other): 22 events (8.2%)
  • False start: When the turtle goes to the beach, but it seems not to have found a suitable place to start the nesting process or was interrupted by some external agent: 20 events (7.5%)
  • Preyed nest: Preyed upon by wild life (raccoons, coatis, others): 67 events (25.1%)
  • Stolen/poached Nest: Nest that humans have stolen: 43 events (16.1%)

Each event has allowed us to learn, share, and protect the species we need.

By September, we had relocated 109 nests, where around 9,844 baby turtles are protected. Each egg represents a new life, a future that depends on our collective effort. Each nest tells a story of effort and dedication. The excitement of our volunteers when observing these nests has been indescribable. Their dedication is at the heart of this initiative.

Throughout these months, we have had the honor of having 19 brave participants in our volunteer program. With each of them, we have created a community united by passion and the desire to make a difference. As the season progresses, we're happy to announce that we've already confirmed 43 participants for the days ahead. This not only reflects the growing interest in conservation but also the deep connection that is being made among those who share this mission.

Our volunteers' contributions have been instrumental to the project's success, making every little achievement possible. Thanks to their commitment, we are creating a legacy that transcends generations.

As we move forward, our gaze remains firmly on the horizon. With every nest we lay and every egg we protect, we are writing a story of hope and rebirth. Best of all, each of you, volunteers and donors, is an essential part of this journey.

Together, we all are writing an incredible story! - THANK YOU FOR BEING PART OF IT!
