Nesting season in Playa Buenavista always starts a bit earlier than a lot of Pacific beaches. This is mainly due to the proximity of Reserva Ostional - home to the natural phenomenom of the "arribada"

This is when hundreds of Olive Ridley turtles nest on the beac en masse- a kind of defense mechanism against predators!

So there are always some turtles that stray a little bot too far from the group - and come to Playa Buenavista! We currently have 11 volunteers in the camp, from France, Spain, USA , UK , Switzerland, and of course Costa Rica.

Just 5 nights ago, they were lucky enough to witness the nesting of the most elusive of sea turtles in Costa Rica - the hawkbill! We had two nest in one night - which is amazing news, as they are critically endangered and hunted for their beautiful shell (yes, tortoiseshell glasses and jewellrycomes from this beautiful creature!)

we have lots more volunteers heading to Buenavista this season - and every person can play a part in the conservation of one of the planets oldest creatures!!
