Summer is here and that means SEA’s summer programs are underway! We have been cooling off in the water by teaching snorkeling to the participants in the Department of Sports, Parks, and Recreation camp again this year. We love this program because we get to meet with these students several times and work with them to progressively gain confidence and skills in the water. We also have hosted a number of field trips to our own Southgate Coastal Reserve to walk the trails while learning about native plants and trees and then use our binoculars to see the diversity of birds that rely on the salt pond for food and shelter. Last week, we visited the Water Warriors and engaged in thoughtful conversations about water pollution and marine debris (see the attached picture). We will be following up with them a little later in the summer to do some water testing in the lab. We have a jam-packed schedule for the rest of the summer and are keeping our fingers crossed for a quiet storm season. We appreciate your contributions to making our summer programs a success every year and giving the young people of St. Croix a chance to learn about our environment.
