SCI is working with the World Food Programme in Cote D’Ivoire to coordinate school feeding when we deliver the next round of treatment in October 2016 to approximately 1,500 schools.
Schistosomiasis treatment is also planned in October 2016 in the 23 endemic districts in Mauritania. If all goes according to plan, this will be followed up with a coverage survey in December 2016.
Things haven’t entirely gone according to plan in Zambia. Treatment will also take place in October, however, not enough of the tablets of praziquantel will arrive in time. So, 2 provinces will receive treatment at the end of October and the remaining 3 provinces will receive treatment in March 2017.
Both islands that make up Zanzibar will also receive their annual round of treatment during the end of October – beginning of November. Treatment will be followed up by a coverage survey in Jan-Feb 2017. SCI in the meantime is working closely with the Natural History Museum on adapting the current treatment strategy in order to create and effective elimination strategy.
Back at base in London, the annual SCI Open Evening will be taking place on 21 September.
