Dear supporters,
Here are the latest updates on PEN PAPER PEACE’s project Schools for Haiti:
The humanitarian crisis in Haiti continues. Gang violence is ongoing in Haiti, in general, and Port-au-Prince, in particular. Gangs continue to terrorise Haitian communities with murders, sexual violence, and kidnappings. Moreover, Haiti continues to be plagued by severe food insecurity. The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that the UN agency is unable to feed Haitians suffering from malnutrition. Climate extremes such as earthquakes and floods have reinforced Haiti's hunger crisis. The staff and students at St. Emma and St. Nicolas have to decide each morning if it is safe enough for them to go to school. The staff is currently not taking pictures in the schools as it is too dangerous to carry a camera in Port-au-Prince. We admire the local staff who do everything they can to keep the schools open.
A challenging school year is coming to an end in Haiti. The students recently concluded the school year with the national final exams. The Haitian summer holidays started on July 24. Our local partner, the St. Luke Foundation, offers a Summer Programme where students can participate in sports, dance, and play activities. Importantly, the children are also provided with meals during the summer vacation. St. Luke's Summer Programme supports students suffering from ongoing violence and insecurities in Haiti. Multiple civil society groups have already decided to leave Haiti. However, it is more urgent than ever to deliver support. If you can, please consider donating to PEN PAPER PEACE so that we can continue to provide assistance in Haiti.

P.S. We have decided to no longer post portrait pictures of children in our partner projects in order to protect their privacy. Although we operate with photo policies at all times, sometimes it is difficult to get informed consent across long distances. It is for this reason that you find emojis on their faces or sometimes illustrations of images :)
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
If you donate to this project or have donated to this project, you can receive an email when this project posts a report. You can also subscribe for reports without donating.
