Introduction

Dear as you know, Yengat Birhan Charity organization is a local non-governmental and non-profit organization that works on children education, women empowerment and health since 2016 here under is some of our performed activities on this reporting period.

On this reporting period, we could perform different activities under the school support project for the 150 (82 Female and 68 Male) school children. We provided tutorial class three days a week, including ethics class every other week alternatively with English free speaking classes. We provided it with snack since the students took tutorial class after school.

In general, we provide the following support for all 150 school children in this reporting period:

  • Tutorial class, it was given totally by our organization with the hired par time teacher from privet school, by voluntaries and by our staff too.
  • The tutorial classes focused on English, Mathematics, Ethics and Physics/Chemistry (for high school students). It was organized with the collaboration of Tesfa Birhan governmental Secondary school as is near to our organization and for the children too.
  • The new tutorial classes that planned to start on February was started mainly focused on English, Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry and Ethics and we were working with the collaboration of Tesfa Birhan governmental Secondary school as we planned until the month of March because on the month of March Every Elementary government schools started to provide tutorial class every Saturday morning and from Monday to Friday in average 3 to 4 classes provided after regular class. Because of this our students were tired and bored to attain the tutor. Therefore, we decided to give the tutorial classes by minimizing the subjects like focused on English, Ethics, and (Mathematics only for high school students because they didn't have tutorial classes).
  • The Tutorial class was ran as planned on every Tuesday and Thursday and the other service on every Saturday as we mentioned until the month of March.
  • Both services of Tutorial class were providing at Tesfa Birhan Government School but for Grade KG to grade 2 at Yengat Birhan class room.
  • Regarding teachers, as much as possible we got as we planned a degree holder for all subject in spite of the student grade level in order to use them for all grade as our schedule.
  • Until the month of March, we keep giving English, Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry for Grade 9&10 and General science for Grade 7&8 and Ethics tutors for all. As we planned all children came for two tutorial class by dividing all students in two groups.
  • The previous English, Mathematics, Physics and Ethics teachers continued with the new tutorial arrangement to cover on Tuesday and Thursday as usual and Physics teacher covered  both Saturday for grade 9 and 10 to teach Physics and on the working days General Science for grade 7 and 8

Here is the class room arrangement and number of students in each class together with all 125 and the additional 25.non sponsored students from the other group:

Grade: 4, 5, 9 and 10, Tutorial classes was provided on every Saturday for only two months January and February year 2024. (3:00 – 6:30 Local Time, (9:00am to 12:30pm), including snack time) and

Grade: KG to grade 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8, Tutorial Class was  provided on every Tuesday and Thursday for only two months January and February year 2024 (From 9:30 – 11:30 Local Time, (3:30pm to 5:30pm) including snack time).

We were forced to go back to the old tutorial days due to the consolidation of the government school from the month of March. Some schools offer tutorial class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, some others on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, therefore, we forced to provide the tutorial according to the school schedule and divide it into two groups as one child learns one day a week. This is not only the case of the starting of schools tutor but also to reduce the pressure on the children. Because they were absent frequently, So, to solve this problem we discussed with them and we understood that they are under pressure and have no time to do homework, assignments and study what they have learned at the regular classes.

On this quarter the Ethics Class topics were:

  • “Hopefulness, What made you who you are?, Way to build character, and Purposeful Life."
  •  The sub-topics that raised were about build their hope, know themself, identify their character builder way and work for purposeful life. Students were discussed actively and raised any questions based on topics.

The students regularly doing sport training every Saturday in the afternoon at Tesfa Birhan High School. We provided sport clothes for some children who don't have it before.

Regarding health-related support, we provided hygiene items for each child like Soap 250 mg 3-piece, Hair oil 125 ml for children and Sanitary pad for 47 girls as the quarterly plan.

We also could provide parenting training for children family and the staff also attended a training name parenting skill on how to use social medias and technologies in this quarter.

We keep also purchased different food items like milk powder for one student who live with the HIV virus, additionally for two students we provided additional food support and we keep buying some food items weekly and paying electricity bills regularly for two students.

Thank you for your contribution to bring change in the life of the school children!
