Quarterly update Report
May 28, 2021
Dear our respected partner,
Thank you for your contribution! Without you, we couldn’t perform this.
This is a project report on school support for 80 orphan children, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Introduction
Yengat Birhan Charity organization is established in 2014. It was initiated by a volunteer family who scale up the support provided to six destitute families who have eleven children. The support includes on basic school materials which was extended to assist family/mothers to generate their own income, providing health education and counseling which was very helpful to improve their leaving condition. In 2016, YBCO registered legally and strengthening its support by way of reaching disadvantageous families focusing primarily on orphans and single mam, who are struggling to raise their children and sending to school in the slum areas of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
YBCO, therefor an indigenous humanitarian organization that works on women empowerment child education and health, the main support areas includes supporting women in income generating activates; provide school materials and tutorial class for school children with snack and health care.
Our school children number becoming increasing from time to time, currently we have a total 130 school children. Within the last three consecutive months the organization had done different activities related to school program. Nutrition snacks were provided before the tutorial classes, three times per a week. On Monday, Tuesday and Friday, they used “Chechebesa” with a cup of milk on Monday and Friday, bread with tea on Tuesday. The children were happy and eager to come for the tutorial class.
They took three subjects: English, Ethics and Mathematics by rotation during the tutorial classes. Different exam and class work given to them as a tool to assess their performance in each month. The teachers tried the class to be more interactive. Their grade report was good, 40% of the students have got a rank from 1 to 10 in their respected classes. It was very encouraging for the teachers as well as for the organization staffs too.
We were doing home visit assessment to know their states and could cover 80 benefiters, student’s family. It was a good lesson for us to know more in-depth them. Based on the home assessment, three benefiters that lead a very difficult life have got a chance to be provided money to start their income generating activities from one organization, in order to support their children and to lead a peaceful life. The beneficiaries that have got especial support has already started their own business and had relatively a better life.
The organization had prepared Easter holyday ceremony for the school children, who are found in the organization, by the taught to have a get together day with each grade level students. The children joyfulness, having unity with other students, and create awareness about humanity was the objective of the ceremony.
Challenges
We were facing lack of budget for full fill materials for the students like: computer and different stationary materials, in addition we are in need of computer and printer since our laptop and printer is very old and can’t work properly. In addition to this we have been faced shortage of human resource this lead as we focus only on routine activates daily.
With all the challenge we faced, we could perform good with limited manpower and resources and able to minimize school dropout.
Therefore, YBCO would like to call up on our supporters to realize our vision of serving the underserved single mothers and to share our load by sharing our vission by using your network.
Thank you again
