To our friends: We are continuing to raise funds for our second library. So far we have $1,063 in donations from everyone who has helped us through GlobalGiving. Thank you all!
We learned a lot from our first library at Turl Laveang Primary School in Battambang Province. Buildings in Cambodia's warm climate do not need basements, but they must have solid, impermeable walls and a strong roof to resist seasonal rains and storms. They should also be on high ground if possible to prevent flooding. The library must provide a safe place for the books as well as for the readers and librarians. Two weeks of heavy rain in the fall of 2020 caused widespread flooding, but the Turl Laveang school library survived undamaged.
The Turl Laveang library has been serving its community since its offical opening in December 2019. During COVID-19 it has been used as a classroom to give the students more room to spread out and stay safe. We are glad to be of help in these difficulat times, and we are looking forward to providing libraries to other village primary schools in Cambodia.
