“We have seen many organizations give material, this is the first time that material has made the children think, work together and learn something new”, says a teacher at Ayyanallur Govt. Middle school in Gummidipoondi block, Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.
Students of this school did remarkable work under Goonj 'School to School' initiative. While a student team enacted a drama on the importance of natural farming and natural foods, others worked on identifying herbal plants apart from making and maintaining a kitchen garden. They also learnt and spoke about the importance of scientific concepts, food chain and how it works etc.1000 school kids in Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu received 1000 school kits and aasans (sitting mats) from Goonj as a reward for such inspiring activities.
Goonj’s School to School initiative turns urban school material into a reward to motivate rural children towards learning and education. Thus instead of habituating kids to charity it’s about teaching kids about achievement and dignity.
