Workshop on Vocational Guidance

Dear donors:

Through this new report, we want to inform that Fonabec continues to work on the project that provides online senior high school for young people of the 8th Generation of CODAF Centers, located in 8 communities of the Mexican Republic.

Communities where the CODAF Centers operate are: Magdalena Contreras (Mexico City), Ezequiel Montes, Colón (Querétaro), San Pedro Amuzgos (Oaxaca), Playa Azul, Lázaro Cárdenas (Michoacán), Tetitla (Mexico State) and Tezonapa (Veracruz).

During the months of March, April and May of year 2019, students of the 8th generation CODAF Centers were able to advance correctly in their online senior high school studies.

In particular, the group of 30 students who are the beneficiaries of the project has completed the second module of its academic plan and now they are studying third module, which ends in August, to make way for the last module as of month of September!!

School subjects of the 3rd module of online studies that are currently being studied are:

  • Health Sciences
  • Philosophical problems
  • Environment and Bioethics.

Project students expressed feeling happy and excited to be able to study their curriculum thanks to the financial support of national and international GlobalGiving donors, who offered their collaboration so that the project continues working.

That means that thanks to financial contributions, the beneficiaries can permanently access the online academic platform, can receive personalized support from local tutors and they also receive complementary training in human skills that strengthen their path to obtain high school certificate.

During these three months each of the project 30 students have taken a total of 5400 hours of learning within the virtual senior high school platform and have received 300 hours of accompaniment from their local tutors and from the central Supervisors of FONABEC.

Students have also participated in the following complementary activities and human formation:

  • Fonabec invited experts from the Training Center for Industrial Work (CECATI 127) to provide our students with talks so that they would know about the educational offer in technical university careers.
  • Workshops on vocational guidance were held in Magdalena Contreras and Michoacán CODAF Centers, which lasted 3 sessions, which were taught by professional staff of the University of the UNAM.
  • Astronomy Workshop thanks to the Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics UNAM Institute, for students of the Playa Azul and Lázaro Cardenas CODAF Centers.
  • Entrepreneurship Workshop was given to students of the eighth generation, with a duration of approximately 16 hours and in which activities were carried out to generate a reflection on the importance of starting microenterprise projects.
  • Social Skills Workshop, through which social skills were promoted in 8th generation students, with the aim of learning to solve interpersonal problems and improve their coexistence in classroom.

Fonabec wants to thank you for your great support, because thanks to the boost of your participation our beneficiaries are taking the necessary steps to fulfill their dream of completing senior high school in February of the year 2020.

For these reasons, we want to convey gratitude of the young people of the project, sending you some of their personal testimonies and photograpies, where they express their firm intention to continue studying and give the best of themselves to finalize the academic modules of their academic curriculum during next year.
