Farm to School Program, at Al-Mustafa Academy

By Sarah Ahmed | Project Leader

Farm to School Initiative

Agriculture impacts society in many ways, including supporting livelihoods through food, habitat and jobs. Agriculture is considered the backbone of Pakistan's economy, which relies heavily on its major crops and ranks 8th globally in farm output, according to the List of countries by GDP sector composition.

When you live in such a country, it becomes even more essential for the children to have food system knowledge, such as gardening, seasonality and what foods are local. Implementing eco-friendly activities in the school can be done in a variety of different ways. We took the Farm-to-school initiative to foster healthy activities and make vital ties between nature and the children.

At Al-Mustafa Academy, we introduced the "MODEL CLASSROOM FOR AGRICULTURE PROGRAM"  for our children. This classroom gives our children to learn and experience agriculture and farming practices. We organised training workshops in school by farming experts in which the students were given theoretical explanations and practical implantation. Apart from increasing their food system knowledge, this program benefits the children in many other ways. It encourages fruit and vegetable consumption in children and increases physical activity. The children tend to make healthier food choices at school and home. It also improves the willingness of children to try new foods.

Leadership Badge Ceremony

Effective leadership is important because it inspires students to be good role models and fosters a healthy school environment and leadership qualities in students. Badges of the Monitors, Prefects, Head Girls & Boys and House Leaders are changed every six months.

Oath Taking Ceremony

The newly selected Monitors, Prefects, Head Girls & Boys, Deputy Head Girls & Boys & House Leaders swore to honestly perform their duties.
