Challenge

Many families and schools in rural and low-income communities in Uganda struggle with food insecurity, poor nutrition, and limited access to agricultural knowledge. Rising food prices and unemployment have left many households unable to provide balanced meals for children. School children often study while hungry, affecting their concentration and academic performance. Vulnerable women and young mothers also lack practical farming skills and resources needed to grow food sustainably.

Solution

This project will support schools and households by: Establishing school demonstration gardens Training families and students in sustainable farming practices Providing seeds, tools, and farming materials Teaching compost making and organic farming methods Promoting nutrition education and food preparation Encouraging climate-smart agriculture techniques Supporting vulnerable women and young mothers with livelihood skills Participants will grow crops such as: Vegetables Maize Beans Fruits Herbs

Long-Term Impact

The project will help communities become more self-reliant and food secure. Children will have improved nutrition and better school participation, while families will gain sustainable farming knowledge that can support them for years. By empowering schools and households with practical agricultural skills, the project will contribute to: Reduced hunger and malnutrition Increased household income Improved school attendance Environmental sustainability Stronger community resilience
