Between 2009/2010, 54 children were sponsored at the levels of primary one, two, three, four, five, six and seven in the schools.
We had two volunteers managed the affairs of these children on a daily basis to ensure that their needs were quickly addressed. The sponsorship to date has been financed largely by short-term charitable contributions from individuals, groups and foundations.
Expanded, recurring financial support allowed HOPE Ofiriha to serve a large number of orphans and children from desperate South Sudanese families in Kampala and the surrounding areas.
Due to current financial crisis many of these children are placed on a waiting list, and also the sponsor-families have temporarily suspended their supports. 20 students returned to South Sudan, 14 students are still active in the programme, 5 children who were ill are back in Schools in a second term this year, and supports were withdrawn from 14 students.
Janet Amitto sat for “A” level exams in November 2011. Results are due in October this year, and if she passes, Amitto will be the second girl from our programme to go for higher education, and the first to study medicines at university level.
