The project aims to support 10 vulnerable female students from remote areas of Mansehra District, Pakistan, by providing scholarships for a two-year certified health diploma. The program will equip these students with professional training as Community Midwives, Nurses, and Lady Health Workers. These skilled healthcare professionals will help bridge the healthcare gap in their communities by delivering essential services, including prenatal care, safe delivery assistance, and postnatal care.
Pakistan has one of the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the world, particularly in rural, hard-to-reach mountainous regions. According to UNICEF, approximately 6.2% of infants at birth die annually, and the maternal mortality rate stands at 1.86% at birth. These figures are even more alarming in remote areas due to a lack of healthcare facilities, early pregnancies, unhygienic delivery conditions, and a lack of trained healthcare workers.
This project aims to support 10 vulnerable female students by providing scholarships for a two-year certified health diploma. The program will equip these students with professional training as Community Midwives, Nurses, and Lady Health Workers. Upon completion, these skilled healthcare professionals will help bridge the healthcare gap in their communities by delivering essential services, including prenatal care, safe delivery assistance, and postnatal care.
This project seeks to reduce infant mortality rates in target areas from 6.2% to 3.0% at live births over five years. It will also aim to cut maternal mortality rates by half. By creating a sustainable, local healthcare workforce, the project will empower women, delay early marriages, and foster a culture that values women's education and health. The broader impact includes improved child survival rates, healthier communities, and progress toward achieving SDG Goal 3: Good Health & Well-being.
