First of all, the staff and Board of ASANA want thank all of you who were so generous and helped us attain (and surpass) our GlobalGiving Challenge goals. For a small, local non-profit such as ASANA your support will go a very long way to help us conserve the Savegre Watershed.
We are in the process of gearing up this new and important project. In fact, thanks in great part to the response we got through GlobalGiving, the Savegre Watershed has now become one of the two main conservation areas in which ASANA operates (in addition to the Path of the Tapir Biological Corridor). We have begun the search for a dedicated ASANA coordinator in the Savegre. We are also close to getting matching funds that will complement the contributions we received through GlobalGiving. Recently, we have re-engaged in conversations with the Government of Costa Rica to request that the Savegre Watershed be declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. As part of this work, we have begun to re-define and re-design the proposed boundaries of the Reserve.
We believe our success with GlobalGiving will serve as the spark that was needed to bring attention to the Savegre Watershed. We will keep you posted as our work develops.
