Wow, what an incredible 3 months we have had. From breast cancer awareness to new clinic services - we celebrate the impact of our work on people’s lives with a grateful heart every day. Thank you to our GlobalGiving family for turning our passion into reality. We cannot do this without your support!
Tekkies 4 Tieties breast cancer awareness event
On Saturday, 25 October 2025, Hlokomela hosted its annual Tekkies4Tieties event in support of breast cancer awareness in Hoedspruit, Limpopo Province.
More than 200 people attended the event, all dressed in shades of pink. Guest speakers and breast cancer survivors shared messages of hope, solidarity, the importance of seeking support and taking serious care of your health. With these words supporters of all ages and abilities – from babies in prams to grannies on crutches – set out for a 2km walk. Everyone gave it their best and were awarded with some great prizes.
Hlokomela mobile clinic was on site to do breast examinations, blood pressure and glucose checks as well as health education. Hlokomela Herb Garden further promoted good health by selling fresh herbs, vegetables and dried fruit on the day.
Funds raised during and after the event will be used to support breast cancer patients on their treatment journey.
“Any man or woman, regardless of age, who experience pain or discomfort in their breast area should not ignore it and seek medical advice immediately” says Sr Mankoana Motswi from Hlokomela Women’s Clinic.
Spine Care Clinic now open at Hlokomela
Always looking for new ways to benefit our patients, Hlokomela collaborated over the course of two years with Dr Rolene Rademan and World Spine Care Africa to deliver chiropractic services right here at Hlokomela Blyde Clinic in Hoedspruit, Limpopo Province.
While most of our beneficiaries have never even heard about spinal health, the job in front of Dr Rolene and her team is huge. Through health awareness, consultations and basic exercises they are bringing relief, improved mobility and productivity to our patients.
The clinic officially opened on 16 October 2025 and attends to patients Mondays to Fridays, 08:00 – 15:00.
Hlokomela presents at the Rural Health Conference
On 17 September 2025 Desiré Wright and Christine du Preez, certified Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) Providers, represented Hlokomela at the Rural Health Conference in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal Province.
Their presentation 'Life changing effect of body-based trauma therapy on rural HIV+ sex workers in Mopani District, Limpopo Province' was well received and a group of 23 doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and bio kineticists participated in a practical TRE session.
The presentation is the result of a three-month study with a group of women, showing the benefits of this simple yet effective technique that has physical and psychosocial benefits, improving wellbeing and mental resilience.
GoodX Conference
On 9 August 2025 Sr Carissa Stoltz attended the GoodX Practice of the Future Conference in Gauteng Province. It was a day filled with fresh ideas, inspiring talks, and exciting ways to make healthcare even better.
From learning about new AI tools that can help streamline patient care, to exploring innovative healthcare solutions, we brought back fantastic insights to help us keep improving the care we give to our Hlokomela family.
Volunteers make all the difference
If it were not for volunteers, Hlokomela would not be able to do half of the work this organisation sets out to do every year. With the help of 200 volunteers, the impact of our work is amplified wherever we go.
This September, volunteers from Jahara Treatment Centre repainted all the roofs at Hlokomela Blyde Clinic, making sure that our patients can enjoy dry consultations all through the rainy season, not having to watch out for buckets catching rainwater inside the clinic!
One hundred HlokoMiere volunteers started work this October, working in teams all around Maruleng Municipality, Mopani District, Limpopo Province to plant and tend to food gardens, support early childhood development centres and work on infection prevention and control in clinics and villages. The project focuses on giving the unemployed work experience, thereby improving their chances of employment in the formal work sector.
Our Nompilos (“mothers of life”) share health education in rural villages and on commercial farms while also supporting co-workers to seek medical treatment at Hlokomela’s clinics.
