Accomplishments of Save the Golden Eagle Project until January, 2014

Dear Golden Eagle friends,

This year has begun with very opportunities for the Golden Eagle conservation in Mexico. First of all, the project “Save the Golden Eagle, Mexico's National Symbol ” has been steadily monitoring key habitat for food supplies in the northern side of the country. Thanks to the efforts of a nationally recognized NGO, Espacios Naturales y Desarrollo Sustentable (ENDESU), prairie dog populations, as well as the grasslands they depend upon, have been restored and monitored successfully. Additionally, Golden Eagle nests have been monitored throughout the past months by the project´s field experts, showing that several eagle pairs have successfully reproduced.

In five weeks, the second meeting of the Golden Eagle experts will take place in Mexico City. During this event the two main objectives are: 1) to formalize this group to be The Golden Eagle Advisory Committee in Mexico, and 2) to review the project´s outcomes after its first year in operation to determine best next steps.

We thank everyone who has contributed to make this conservation project possible through Global Giving donations. It is thanks to you that every day, more of these magnificent animals can find a healthy and safe environment in which to thrive. We hope you continue being part of it.

All the best,

Save the Golden Eagle Project Team
