We are very excited about the progress of the program in Honduras.
Ritza Master, the new president of the program’s main partner, the Association of River Basin Councils, is also the supervisor of the educations centers in the area. Ms. Ritza has arranged for the radio programs to be distributed to schools and colleges as part of their environmental studies curriculum. A discussion guide will also be provided on-line as well as a brief evaluation questionnaire. The radio programs in the schools effort will start on June 1 in 4 schools serving about 350 children from 8 to 15 years old and will then expand to other school districts.
A new series of training workshops for radio production and technology are underway.
To date, 8 radio drama episodes of the 16 in the program in the “Water” series have been aired. The drama programs are now being followed up by a call-in show with local representatives from the Valley Basin councils. This gives listeners the opportunity to ask questions about their concerns in their own neighborhoods.
The scripts for 5 remaining radio dramas have been completed and will run through July.
A “Festival of the Environment” has been organized for June. Episodes of the radio series have been adapted into stage productions and will be presented in a number of communities. The festival will also include community environmental workshops.
