New Homes, New Horizons: A fresh start for our 8 Indian street furry friends. Our International Adoption Journey Begins!
Eight rescued Indian dogs - Raja, Scott, Dolly, Maruthi, Kittu, Potti, Ravi, and Scout - traveled on an extraordinary journey from despair to hope as they flew to the USA for their international adoption. Each has a unique story of resilience and now looks forward to a life filled with love and care.
We transport Indian street dogs to the USA because they often face discrimination in their native country and have limited chances of survival and being adopted. By bringing them to the USA, we open doors to new beginnings and loving homes. We've found homes for 17 such dogs in the last four years.
Raja
Raja, rescued at a mere 2 months old, was discovered alone, suffering from chronic skin issues. Despite undergoing rehabilitation, adoption interest eluded him due to his status as a street dog. However, on Feb 24th, Raja embarked on a journey to San Francisco, USA. He is now under the care of Love Second Chances Rescue SFO, eagerly awaiting his chance for adoption.
Scott
Scott was rescued at just two months old. He was discovered with a popped eye, likely from running over by a vehicle. However, adoption interest remained elusive due to his status as a street dog. On Feb 24th, Scott embarked on a journey to San Francisco, USA. He is now in the care of Love Second Chances Rescue SFO and eagerly awaits his chance for adoption.
Ravi
Ravi, rescued at a tender age of just two months, was discovered alone, battling infected wounds. Despite his rough start, he underwent rehabilitation, yet sadly, adoption interest remained elusive due to his street dog status. However, on Feb 24th, he embarked on a journey to Jacksonville, Florida, USA. With open arms, Fur Sisters Rescue in Jacksonville, Florida, graciously welcomed him, and he’s now eagerly awaiting his chance for a loving forever home.
Dolly
At just 2 months old, Dolly was discovered dragging her feet, her past a mystery of possible vehicle trauma or abuse. Tragically, she suffered a spine injury that left her back legs paralyzed. Dolly, embarked on a flight to Jacksonville, Florida, USA, on March 4th. She is currently under the loving foster care of founder Ujwala and is now available for adoption.
Kittu
Kittu, the German Shepherd, and her sibling were rescued from an unethical breeder, both with deformed legs. Sadly, Kittu, with a visual deformity, had no adoption prospects in India. Consequently, she embarked on a journey to the USA in search of a loving forever home.
Potti
Potti’s journey began in Hyderabad, India, when he was just 2 months old, rescued with infected bite wounds that threatened his young life. With foster mom's dedication and support, Potti not only survived but thrived, showing incredible resilience and strength. However, his journey took a heartbreaking turn when his adopters abandoned him.
Now, as an adult street dog with a history of injuries, Potti faces discrimination and limited adoption prospects in India. That’s why he’s traveled to the USA, seeking better adoption opportunities.
Scout
Scout, rescued at just 1 month old with a leg fracture, underwent bone plate surgery and made a full recovery. However, due to his status as a street dog and his history of injury, his adoption prospects remain bleak. Scout flew on Mar 4th to Florida, USA, and is now in founder Ujwala's foster care in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. He is now up for adoption.
New Updates
The Stray Animal Foundation of India's founder and team recently met with Mr. Harish Reddy Samaluru IAS, former Ranga Reddy District Collector in Hyderabad, India, to discuss acquiring land for a new shelter and government support for animal cruelty cases.
A huge thank you to Mahith. Mahith was traveling from India to SFO. He generously volunteered to be Raja and Scott’s flight buddy on their journey to San Francisco, USA! Mahith’s kindness and support are truly appreciated. Because of Mahith, two dogs found a home.
Our generous donor, Manju Vadapally, kindly sponsored a lavish double feast for our shelter workers, to which SAFI added a delightful package of chocolates, cookies, and tequila. Since our shelter also serves as a home for these dedicated workers, we always strive to ensure they feel the warmth and comfort of home in their living quarters.
