Some of you may remember this project being up on the Global Giving website last year. It was funded this past February and we were able to pay the Monge family one year of “payments for environmental services” for the CO2 their primary forest is absorbing and storing.
The income has been a great help to the family. After losing their eldest son Josue this past year they were able to do some home improvements that were much needed.
The “Save San Luis, Save This Family” project actually earned surplus donations which I have transferred over to the project for this year. Truth is for only $705.00 (USD) we can once again fund this wonderful project and be able to pay Mariano and Alba again in February 2012.
Thank you all for your previous support for this project. Because of your donations Mariano is now very inspired by his forest and plans to begin leading nature walks for students, tourists and residents.
A $30 donation will offset approx. 7 tons/CO2/year of your GHG emissions, by preserving 5000 sq. meters (1/2 hectare) of this primary rainforest for one year. Calculate via a carbon calculator about how many tons of CO2 emissions you and your family are responsible for, donate and live all year long knowing that you have equalled it out by supporting this vital forest property.
