May is not just any month. May is Melanoma Awareness Month. It represents our collective commitment to discovery that will help end death and suffering due to melanoma. The Melanoma Research Alliance proudly stands behind 17 groundbreaking treatments over the past two decades, but there are patients that still need help. Amidst cuts to critical medical research, MRA has created the SPF initiative: Save Protect Fund to address underfunded melanomas and other unmet needs.
With the reality of cuts to medical research, we need your help to double down as formidable challenges persist: Over 100,000 people will be diagnosed with melanoma in 2025. 50% of patients diagnosed with advanced melanoma do not respond to available treatments. Rare and aggressive forms of this disease - acral, mucosal, uveal and pediatric - remain underfunded and under-researched.
With your continued support and partnership, we will power more research that will address underfunded melanomas and other unmet needs such as: Rare and aggressive forms of this disease - acral, uveal, and mucosal melanomas Treatment resistant melanomas - 50% of patients diagnosed with advanced melanoma either do not respond or stop responding to available treatments Improving diagnostic, predictive and prognostic biomarkers
This May, please join us in driving the next breakthrough and playing a vital role in supporting the melanoma community. All gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Your gift supports the work that gives patients hope and gets us closer to cures.
