By Janine Rauscher | Update on Save, Protect, Fund Melanoma Research
Three months ago, we shared how the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) continues to advance life-saving research despite a challenging funding landscape. Today, that commitment remains as strong as ever.
As we continue our work, MRA remains focused on accelerating discoveries that will end death and suffering from melanoma. Over the past two decades, MRA has helped make possible 17 groundbreaking melanoma treatments, yet we know there is still much more to do for patients and families facing this disease.
The Save Protect Fund (SPF) Initiative continues to provide critical support for underfunded melanoma research and other urgent unmet needs. Thanks to the generosity of our donor community, the initiative has raised $581,361.28 since its launch, with every dollar dedicated to advancing promising research when it is needed most.
MRA continues to lead as the world's largest nonprofit, non-governmental funder of melanoma research, having invested more than $175 million in over 500 research projects at 165 institutions worldwide. This year, we awarded $9.3 million in new research grants, expanded the RARE Melanoma Registry to include more than 600 patients, and launched the innovative Next Steps Program to help accelerate promising discoveries from the laboratory to the clinic.
None of this progress would be possible without the unwavering support of donors like you. At a time when biomedical research faces increasing uncertainty, your generosity helps ensure that the most promising ideas continue to move forward and that hope continues to grow for melanoma patients and their families.
Thank you for standing with MRA and for making this important work possible. Together, we are advancing research, accelerating new treatments, and bringing us closer to a future free from melanoma.
