After many years of drought we have finally recieved the rain we've been hoping for! California was hit with record-breaking amounts of rainfall thanks to several weeks of strong storms in January and February. As a result our entire state is completely out of 'extreme' and 'exceptional' drought for the first time in recent memory. We can now shift our focus from tree watering to care and kick it up a notch!
Not only has the rain quenched the thirst of our Trees to the Sea but other plants as well. In fact, all this water has caused large amounts of fast-growing invasive species to take off, and in some areas, take over. Now that Mother Nature has provided the water the power is once again in our hands to help these trees live up to their full potential, making clean oxygen for other living beings.
What is coming up for Trees to the Sea?
At Tree Musketeer's 30th Annual Arbor Day Celebration taking place this Saturday we will be focusing on the western half of the 1.2 mile stretch, pulling weeds, dead trees and highway debris from the median. After the coast is clear these 200+ trees, most of which are now reaching maturity, will have room to grow and thrive. And finally we will be laying down a thick layer of mulch along the entire stretch to keep invasives down over the long-term.
How can you support Trees to the Sea even more?
Volunteer for an upcoming event and see all the great work you have made possible! Earth Day is right around the corner on April 22nd so get on board early! You can still make a financial contribution to our ongoing Trees to the Sea efforts - it's never too late...
Thank you for your continued support!
