Thank you for your recent donation to Transportation Alternatives!

Your gift will allow T.A. to push visionary ideas for transforming New York City streets forward.

Future generations of New Yorkers will owe you a debt of gratitude:  with neighborhood streets safe for kids to play, more bike lanes, new public plazas, increased traffic enforcement, the expansion of public bike share and a citywide commitment to Vision Zero, New York is a better place to live than ever before.

So we can keep you posted on how your gift is making a mark on New York City’s future, activate your complimentary T.A. membership today by e-mailing membership@transalt.org.

T.A. members get great benefits, like:

  • Big savings on all T.A. bike tours (borough tours of Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, and the New York City Century Bike Tour)
  • Deep discounts at New York City retailers, as well as up to $47 off a Kryptonite bike lock
  • Invitations to special events
  • Free subscription to Reclaim magazine

Plus, you’ll be supporting T.A.’s lifesaving advocacy work, including dozens of campaigns to transform local streets. Together, we can transform New York into a city worth living in – the city you and I know it can be.

Your gift has already had a profound impact.

Fewer pedestrians were killed by traffic crashes in New York City last year since recordkeeping began in 1910. The main cause? Street and intersection redesign projects completed as part of the City of New York’s Vision Zero program – the majority of which were tirelessly advocated for by T.A. staff and activists. T.A. introduced New Yorkers to Vision Zero in 2011 and as a direct result of our influence, Mayor de Blasio has committed to achieving this ambitious goal – the elimination of traffic deaths and serious injuries on New York City’s streets – by 2024.

Additionally, Families for Safe Streets, a T.A.-supported group of New Yorkers who have lost loved ones or been injured in traffic crashes, marked its first anniversary in February. The group quickly became the moral authority on traffic safety in New York City last year, leading NY1 to designate Families for Safe Streets as “New Yorkers of the Year” for 2014. Families for Safe Streets kicked off 2015 with a rally for traffic justice on the steps on City Hall on January 11 (see photo above), which over 200 New Yorkers attended – despite freezing weather – to show their commitment to seeking justice for the victims of traffic violence.

And in neighborhood-specific news, T.A. just launched two new activist committees in Upper Manhattan and Eastern Queens in order to empower local residents in historically underserved neighborhoods to make real changes to how streets and sidewalks function in their communities. With your support, the committees will serve as resources for political education, activist training, networking and an introduction to civic engagement for hundreds of New Yorkers this year.

Thank you again for your generous support of T.A. Please remember to activate your membership now by e-mailing us at membership@transalt.org, and I look forward to working with you in the year ahead.
