HELP IRAQI CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

From Isolation to Opportunity

Supporting Children with Special Needs and Their Families

September 2026

For many low-income families in Iraq, raising a child with a disability can be overwhelming. Specialized assessments, therapy, rehabilitation, and educational support are often difficult to access or simply unaffordable.

Iraqi Children’s Hope (ICHOPE) continues helping children with disabilities and developmental challenges receive the professional support they need while providing guidance and encouragement to their families.

Our Support

During this period, ICHOPE focused on:

• Developmental assessments and referrals

• Speech, communication, and behavioral support

• Rehabilitation and developmental therapy assistance

• Family guidance and caregiver support

• Regular follow-up to monitor children's progress

• Social and educational activities that build confidence and interaction

For these children, progress may mean saying a new word, making eye contact, participating in an activity, or communicating a need independently. Small achievements can represent enormous progress.

A Child's Story: “He Finally Called Me Mama”

Name changed to protect the child's privacy.

Ali is a young boy who struggled significantly with communication. His mother worried as she watched other children his age speak while Ali remained mostly silent.

Through developmental and communication support, along with activities his mother could practice with him at home, Ali slowly began making progress.

Then one day, he looked at his mother and clearly said:

“Mama.”

His mother shared:

“People may think it is only one word, but for me it was everything. I felt that my son had finally found a way to reach me.”

Ali still has a long journey ahead, but his progress reminds us why early and consistent support matters.

Moving Forward

ICHOPE will continue working to reach children who lack access to specialized care, to strengthen partnerships with therapists and specialists, and to provide families with the knowledge and support they need.

Your Support Creates Possibilities

Your generosity can help a child receive an assessment, attend therapy, learn to communicate, participate in school, and become more independent.

Every child deserves to be recognized for their abilities—rather than to be defined by their disability.

Thank you for helping Iraqi children with disabilities learn, communicate, participate, and thrive.
