Growing partnerships

By Remon Ellegala | Operations Manager

Khiri Reach Partnership
Khiri Reach Partnership

Its been a quiet few months in terms of projects but our partnerships are growing and the forestry work is continuing.

Sadly, our forest leader, Devin has left us after working with us for one year. We want to give him a special mention because he has been brilliant in terms of coordinating our donation efforts and his love for nature has spread throughout the team.

We will be opening the position of forest leader in the next few months to carry on from where he left. Please keep following us to find out more.

Our growing partnerships

We are excited at the growing interest in Kandyan Forest Gardens and support to ensure these beautful forests remain protected.

We want to give a special thanks to Khiri Reach who are sponsoring an acre of reforestation. The trees are doing well and we are seeing real progress. The trees are a combination of Mee trees, spice and fruit trees which are all growing steadily.

Another special mention goes out to Passiko Voyages who visited us a month ago to see our efforts. Their guests have been contributing to our cause for the last year, raising over Rs 100,000 supports us to to buy new plants and paying salaries.

We have also seen an interest from Student Groups that would love to get in involved which is promising for the future.

Reforestation and forest management continues

Our reforestation efforts are continuing despite the heavy rains thanks to Nel. She is continuing to plant a combination of native, fruit and spice trees on Mee Hill and Bodhi Land with over 60 trees in the past 3 months. The battle with invasive species including soapbush and guinea bush is a real struggle since we avoid using chemical fertiliser, but these grasses are relentless!

Despite the challenges of battling with nature we are enjoying every minute of it. The plants need rain, wildlife needs to eat and plants will continue to grow - we are just here to manage it to ensure balance and harmony for all:)
