The farming families of the Peruvian Andes are the protagonists of their future

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your continued generosity and commitment to rural communities in the Peruvian Andes. Your support is helping farming families restore degraded lands, strengthen their livelihoods, and build resilience to climate change.

We firmly believe that the future of our planet depends on the stewardship of smallholder farmers. Through their dedication, knowledge, and hard work, degraded landscapes can be transformed into productive ecosystems that benefit both people and nature.

What We Have Achieved Together

Thanks to your support, the project has reached:

  • 2,129 farming families actively participating
  • 39 rural communities engaged in restoration activities
  • More than 2,800 hectares restored over the last three years
  • 1.2 million trees planted during the 2025–2026 forestry campaign
  • More than 14 million trees planted since the beginning of Pachamama Raymi's restoration efforts
  • 15 community nurseries established
  • 2.5 million seedlings currently being produced for future planting campaigns

These achievements are not only improving environmental conditions but are also creating new opportunities for families that depend on agriculture and natural resources for their livelihoods.

Restoring Land, Strengthening Livelihoods

The third forestry campaign concluded successfully in March 2026. During this campaign, participating families planted approximately 1.2 million trees across degraded highland areas in the districts of Accha, Ccapi, Ccapacmarca, Huanoquite, Omacha, and Paccaritambo.

The restoration of degraded lands is helping communities reduce soil erosion, improve water retention, increase biodiversity, and create productive landscapes that can generate long-term economic benefits.

Following the planting season, georeferencing activities entered their final phase, allowing us to validate restoration areas and strengthen future monitoring and certification efforts.

Preparations for the next forestry campaign are already underway through nursery management and seedling production activities carried out jointly with local communities.

Families Leading the Change

The active participation of local families remains the foundation of the project's success.

Throughout the year, we continued organizing training sessions, technical assistance activities, and community coordination meetings. These efforts help families strengthen their skills, improve local organization, and ensure the sustainability of restoration activities.

The commitment demonstrated by participating families continues to be one of the most important drivers of the project's impact.

New Sources of Income for Rural Families

One of the most promising outcomes of the restoration process has been the growing commercialization of pine mushrooms.

As restored forest areas mature, families are gaining access to new economic opportunities through the sustainable harvesting of forest products.

In the district of Ccapi alone, participating communities generated approximately PEN 30,000 (around USD 8,700) from pine mushroom sales during the most recent season. To support this activity, model drying units were installed and training was provided on harvesting and post-harvest management practices.

These results demonstrate that environmental restoration can directly contribute to improving household incomes while encouraging the sustainable management of natural resources.

Challenges and Continuous Improvement

Working in high-altitude Andean ecosystems presents important challenges.

Steep slopes, drought conditions, livestock grazing, and other environmental factors require ongoing monitoring and adaptive management. Field assessments have helped identify opportunities to improve planting practices and strengthen protection measures for restored areas.

Looking Ahead

While significant progress has been achieved, there is still much work to do.

Our priorities for the coming year include:

Completing the georeferencing of all planted areas.

Advancing the certification of forest plantations.

Developing future income opportunities through carbon credit initiatives.

Continuing to strengthen community leadership and organizational capacity.

Expanding restoration efforts in collaboration with local governments and participating communities.

Building a Better Future Together

The ultimate goal of this project is to help rural families overcome poverty while restoring the ecosystems on which their livelihoods depend.

Every tree planted represents more than environmental restoration. It represents an investment in families, communities, and future generations. It creates opportunities for income, improves resilience to climate change, and contributes to healthier and more productive landscapes.

Thank you for making this work possible. Together, we are helping rural families build a more sustainable and prosperous future.

Help us with your donation to Planting Prosperity!

Thank you for your generosity and continued support. Together, we are creating a better future.
