People have believed on our project and are helping us grow even more! We were working on expanding the project and making it replicable, and now we are actually replicating it on more parts of our country thanks to voluntary efforts of key kind individuals. Our program Yo Soy la Respuesta is now on San José, Cartago, Heredia, Alajuela and soon in Guanacaste, which means it is working on 5 out of 7 provinces of Costa Rica!
Not only the voluntary work is responsible for this amazing news but also its because of the support of our government. Gaia signed a Work Plan with the Ministry of Public Education where it is expressly sought that Costa Ricans change the destiny of the world by introducing in our public education a permanent process that allows us to participate in the evolution of our consciousness as a country.
The Plan is part of the Integrated Education Program for Sustainable Development, and seeks to achieve that goal through the Yo Soy la Respuesta and Gaia Yoga program. The general objective of the plan is to promote the development of a new environmental culture that facilitates the scope of sustainability, adaptation to Climate change and biodiversity conservation.
Last but not least, our program has worked wonderfully throughout the school year. Kids have already experienced an educational process about caring for our mother earth, avoiding materials such as plastic and styrofoam. Actually, in the middle of our learning, our country passed a law to prohibit the use and selling of styrofoam, read more about it here. We did a school ecobrick tournament, to see which group would make more ecobricks and get rid of the extra non-recyclable trash, and, surprisingly, our Yo Soy la Respuesta group of kids won. They won a delicious pizza party.
“This is my favourite class, not because of the pizza, but because we’re learning to care for our mother earth.” - Esteban (Second grade)
Teachers and school workers expressed how cleaner the school looked and they continued to create ecobricks in their classrooms to reduce waste around the school.
