A fantastic week of sterilizations took place on Isabela Island between August 15th and 19th. 83 animals between dogs and cats were sterilized by a powerful team made up of 3 American volunteers, surgeon Dr. Liz and veterinary technicians Andrea and Judy along with Dr. Edisson from Ecuador and the team of local volunteers.
Local educational programs have been integrated so that high school seniors can experience and learn about animal-related careers. On this occasion, 16 students were selected to participate in the sterilization campaign and learn from our surgeons and technicians, in addition to spending beautiful moments with our patients.
The local radio station opened its doors for us and allowed us to chat with ‘isabeleños’ about the myths that still exist about sterilization. This direct interaction with citizens is allowing us to build a relationship of trust that strengthens our dog and cat population control program, but also the peaceful coexistence of humans and animals.

Una fantástica semana de esterilizaciones se desarrolló en Isabela entre los días 15 y 19 de agosto. 83 animales entre perros y gatos fueron esterilizados por un poderoso equipo formado por 3 voluntarios estadounidenses, la cirujana Dra. Liz y las técnicas veterinarias Andrea y Judy con el Dr. Edisson de Ecuador y el equipo de voluntarios locales.
Programas educativos locales se han integrado para que los estudiantes de los últimos años de secundaria puedan experimentar y aprender sobre las profesiones relacionadas con animales. En esta ocasión 16 estudiantes fueron seleccionados para participar en la campaña de esterilización y aprender de nuestros cirujanos y técnicos, además de pasar hermosos momentos junto a nuestros pacientes.
La estación de radio local nos abrió sus puertas y nos permitió conversar con los isabeleños sobre los mitos que aún existen sobre la esterilización. Esta interacción directa con los ciudadanos nos esta permitiendo construir una relación de confianza que fortalece nuestro programa de control de poblaciones de perros y gatos pero también la convivencia pacífica de humanos y animales.
