Pradeep
Pradeep

Pradeep isa student of the Government Tamil  Higher Primary School, Murphy Town  studying in 4th standard. He comes from a very poor family, his mother is working as a maid and his father has abandoned the family when Pradeep was 2 years old child. Pradeep is the youngest among  three siblings. His eldest brother has discontinued his studies and his other brother is studying in 5th std in the same school. Pradeep  is a intelligent student in and  is very regular to  school. His mother goes for work early in the morning and returns late at  night . His family is in need of money so Pradeep  works in a shop  during his summer holidays. In spite of all these difficulties ,Pradeep is determined  to  attend school  regularly  and get a basic education. We are committed to all these children and will help them continue their education beyond this  primary school.

Ashwini Charitable Trust (ACT) has adopted the Government Tamil Higher Primary School in Murphy Town, Bangalore in 2013. After the adoption, we have been working hard to increase the student strength of the school and absorb this children into our trust to finish their basic education These children are first generation literates, so they do not have the motivation to come to school or to continue their education. So we will go to the homes of these children to bring them back to school with the help of the school teachers. We have been providing all the basic academic support and school necessities like books, shoes, stationery to the children of the school. We also arranged school van to pick and drop the children from the  school. We distribute a healthy porridge every alternate  morning and goodies  to all the students during special celebrations like Christmas or Diwali.

The months of April and May are school annual vacations after the final exams which happen during the middle of March. Our staff help the teachers for the smooth conduct of the exams. .We at ACT motivate the students to come to the school regularly by engaging volunteers to spend time with the children regularly. We also have volunteers from different organisations interacting with the children. Six  ACT volunteers and staff go to  the school regularly and help  the students by teaching english, maths and craft. ACT has taken shoe measurements for all the students and will provide shoes along with school bags, stationery and sweaters to each student during the next academic year

ACT sent a proposal to Lodge Tirunalu no. 179 from Bangalore  for the renovation of the  leaking asbestos sheet roofs of the building containing classrooms for the students. They kindly accepted the proposal and completed the renovation of the school building during this time since the children are not in school. When the children return to school after the holidays they will be thrilled to see the new building .It has been newly painted ,cleaned and all the electrical fittings installed.

The original school building is very old built in 1924 and it has been declared as a heritage building .It has many infrastructure issues such as leaking roofs, damp walls and broken floor tiles.Lack of funds is constraining us from doing more work to make this school a happy place for these underprivileged children. We appeal for more funds through GlobalGiving, so that the poverty stricken parents can send their children to a safe and happy place.
