Happy Faces - Birthday Celebrations at the School

Ashwini Charitable Trust (ACT) and Government T. Higher Primary School (GTHPS) have been working together since 2013 as a part of the School Adoption Programme. ACT focuses on a number of critical elements to give the school the much-needed support in order to establish an environment that is favourable for learning.

Our ACT Team, which consists of teachers, programme coordinators, and a programme manager, has been concentrating on the preparatory and foundational levels of the school as part of the ACT Education Programme at the school. We also engage number of talented Interns and Volunteers who help in the development of the students at GTHPS.

This quarter we had 6 interns who have provided 330 hours altogether for the development of the students at GTHPS. These interns belong to leading colleges of Commerce and other related subject from the city of Bangalore. There are number of activities that were carried on by the interns along with the teacher for improving the academics of the children specially their Maths and English. Under Maths identification of numbers, writing numbers in words, tables, counting etc is covered. Similarly, under English Identifying and learning alphabets, storytelling, Story listening and understanding, comprehensions, etc are the focus area. As the academic year began from June 2023, ACT team is majorly focusing on developing the basics of the students. After the interventions provided by the teacher and interns, we have seen a remarkable change in the students especially in math subject.

“The majority of my work was done at the GTHP School. I was there teaching the kids, alphabets and numbers to the 1st and 2nd graders, teaching phonics, words and spellings to the 5th graders, reading out stories and teaching tables to 6th graders, playing football with the 7th graders and so on. Altogether it was a very enlightening experience for me.” – Feedback from an Intern, St. Joseph’s College

As part of the ACT education Program, we also distributed number of stationaries to the child so that the learning process is not hindered. The stationary includes Bags, Books, Pencil Box, Sharpener, Eraser, etc.

As ACT focus on holistic development of the child the creative development is equally focused on. Number of sessions on craft, art, sports etc were conducted for the children at the school, every Saturday. For the children's education, we also use board games which help children develop their social and emotional skills in addition to their cognitive talents. Few of our interns were also teaching them to play soccer and the kids use to enjoy this time of the day.

At ACT students' birthdays are always memorable because they represent the start of another exciting, joyful year. On the end of every month ACT organizes birthday celebration for children at school where all the kids who had birthday in that particular year come together and cut a cake. The cutting of large cakes, blowing out candles, applauding and clapping is followed by a cake and chips party.

We want to express our gratitude to everyone who has helped us in our efforts to facilitate the education of the students at GTPHS. It is unquestionably true that education may change the game. For children from economically challenged families to have a fair opportunity at leading a life that their parents could not even imagine, education is essential.

In order to ensure that every child attend school, continues on to college, receives an education, and is subsequently empowered to build the life of her/his dreams, it is up to all of us to collectively assume the responsibility of creating a favourable environment and a strong mechanism wherein education is a right and not a privilege.

“Let us remember one book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world” – Malala Yousafzai

We would like to take a moment to express our immense gratitude for all the support extended by our donors.
