Your gift provided a scholarship for a girl in Bangladesh to attend school for an entire year! Because of that, she was saved from becoming a child bride. Thank you!
Many parents in Bangladesh are too poor to pay the required fees for their daughters to attend school. Worse than that, some cannot afford to feed all of their children. So giving a young daughter—even at the age of 10—to an older man as his bride becomes a heartbreaking, but viable option.
Girls who stay in school are six times less likely to be married off before their 18th birthday.
Salma is one of the girls who received a scholarship to attend school, and was saved from child marriage. Now she has completed high school and is teaching preschool while making plans to attend college. Isn’t that great news?
Your gift of education has broken the cycle of poverty for Salma. Salma now has a bright future! She hopes to become a lawyer to help women and girls. At a recent meeting about the role of education for women in society and the negative effects of child marriage, she said, "… My education is making me a complete person. It will help advance this society."
Thank you so much for giving!
