LAUNCH OF RE-USABLE SANITARY PADS
When our team, comprising of staff members of C4HDI, adhoc community representatives and volunteers attended a seminar on the heels of the producers on the effectivity and use of Re-usable Sanitary Pads, we were educated that the new product is safe and cost effective. Before then, we had leisurely assumed that the reusable pads will not meet the standards of hygienic safety. But we were all wrong. It was demonstrated to us that sterilizing and the use of antiseptic products is safe and effective to preserve the pads and keep them away from germs and bacteria that causes diseases.
Our consideration to use them for our beneficiaries took a final agreement on our last board meeting.
DISTRIBUTION TO INMATES.
Upon the approval by the authorities to offer our beneficiaries the new sanitary pads, we introduced it to them, educating them on how to use it, wash and preserve it. Maybe, out of excitement and curiousity, some of our beneficiaries damaged the protective wool on some of the pads. We took note of it and decided for an impromptu visit the next week. We were much excited as our beneficiaries were to see is and then, we discovered that all that used it got it right! What was also noted was the faster consumption of liquid antiseptics. When we inquired, we were told that flood entered their bathroom as a result of frequent heavy rain falls and so, they disinfect their bathrooms more than ordinary days.
SUSTAINABILITY OF REUSABLE PADS.
Eventhough the cost of reusable pads are not too exorbitant, the supply chain is. On enquiry, we were told by the importers that it takes time to land to our community because of the government policies on importation of medics which the pad is categorized into. With this information on mind, we quickly decided not to depend on it entirely. We decided to combine both the regular disposable pads together with the reusable ones on our beneficiaries because its sustainability is not reliable. And then, we shall also continuously educate them about it.
DOING OUR NORMAL SERVICES
Our normal services to our beneficiaries continued with the supply of handkerchiefs, antiseptic tablet soap, detergents, liquid antiseptics, and checks on their personal pubic hair clippers.
Our work remains a source of joy to them and stakeholders.
it's great to know and appreciate our donors, volunteers and stakeholders for their immense support of our cause and innovation.
Thanks.
