Before finishing their time with us at The Learning Farm, Batch 31 took a camping trip in the beautiful foothills of the Gede Pangrango Mountain. It is local to the farm, making it a terrain the students were comfortable with but it was still an exciting challenge to hike through the steep hills from the car park to the campsite.
The aim of the trip was to bring the students closer together with their schoolmates but also with their natural surroundings. Over the one night stay, the students and staff lived together and worked as a team to complete the organised activities.
Once everyone was divided into groups, each group worked together and built their camp. Then, the basic level students conducted nature hikes through various posts of the mountain, at each post the advanced level students quizzed the group on questions concerning organic farming.
This helped the students to contextualise their farming knowledge and think about it in its indigenous environment. It was a creative and a constructive way to teach, to learn and to connect with nature.
