Schistosomiasis, a parasitic disease contracted through contact with contaminated water sources, poses a significant health risk to the vulnerable children of Mpape, Abuja. Recognizing this urgent need, the Better Life Program for the African Rural Woman (BLPARW), in collaboration with its partner, GIPLC, implemented a critical intervention: the provision of a solar-powered borehole to the Mpape community.
Prior to this intervention, the community relied heavily on the Mpape River as their primary water source. However, this river is heavily contaminated, posing a significant risk of waterborne diseases such as schistosomiasis. Furthermore, many children in Mpape live in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions with limited access to basic sanitation facilities.
By providing a reliable source of clean water through the solar-powered borehole, BLPARW and GIPLC have taken a significant step towards improving the health and well-being of the community. This intervention has:
