Greetings from St Martins and Kibagare community. All is well here, and we are more than grateful for the far that we have come thanks to your support.
We have continued with our Saturday feeding program for our children here in Kibagare and the surrounding slum. The food situation over the past three months has been highly vulnerable in informal settlements and in most urban areas. It remains critical due to high inflation driven by Global fuel prices, leading to an increase in food prices for more than 60% people living in informal settlements.
Food prices have remained high, with increases in fresh produce and vegetable prices ranging from 5% to 11% in a single month. This effect is felt by most families living in the Kibagare Slum, especially children, who make up a large part of the population here. Families are forced to develop coping mechanisms to offset the high cost of food. Forcing some of them to skip meals, reduce or cut down their protein intake, and rely on credit facilities to feed their families.
We had rain in the last three months; a relief, yes though it was too much and ended up destroying farm produce. We are not expecting much harvest, though grateful that at least it's not as dry as it was in the months before.
We have continued with our Saturday Feeding program since our last update. 13,228 children have been served in the last three months thanks to the support we have received this year, and for this, we are more than grateful.
We continue with the feeding program, and we will be sure to send an update. Your continued support goes a long way.
Thank you all and be blessed.
