From his young years, Gangadhararao was a fighter, from Guntur district. He battled vitiligo – a skin condition in which an individual loses pigmentation due to genetics or stress – from the age of six. He now struggles with cataract in both his eyes. It was 2 years ago when Gangadhararao first had trouble seeing objects up close. He noticed the difference in his vision at his workplace, a local restaurant. He works as a cook and had a challenging time seeing the vegetables and culinary instruments at the time. He went to a local hospital and they prescribed glasses for myopia. He only realized that his issue was more serious than he originally thought when he could not see far distances either. “I knew something else was wrong when I couldn’t recognize my friends’ faces from far,” said Gangadhararao.
He attended Sankara’s screening camp in Chilakaluripet and had his operation performed. After the surgery, when asked how he felt now and if his vision has improved, he replied by saying, “It never bothered me to begin with. I’ve learned to accept things as they are over the years. When my vitiligo problem was worsening while growing up, there would always be two or three people who would look at me, turn around, and walk in the other direction. But that doesn’t mean that I would turn away from my path. I kept going on because life keeps going on. “Although my vision never bothered me, I still am very grateful that I am able to see and can spend the rest of my life looking at the beautiful things around me, just because – Sankara Eye Hospital restored my vision and gave me a new life. Says the excited Gangadhararao”
