2025 Year in Review

2025 Year In Review
2025 Year In Review

As we begin 2026, we are reflecting with gratitude on the impact your support made throughout 2025. Over the past year, Sahiyo reached over 1,540 survivors and community members from South Asian, African, and Arab communities through survivor-centered education, facilitated discussions, and culturally responsive resources addressing female genital cutting (FGC).

One of the highlights of 2025 was the way Sahiyo’s programs deepened individual involvement and leadership around ending FGC. For example, volunteer and Early Career Researcher Huda Syyed shared how participating in Sahiyo’s Community Education & Training and Technical Assistance efforts broadened her understanding of cultural contexts and strengthened her ability to support survivors and engage diverse communities. She described how Sahiyo’s inclusive spaces fostered learning, connection, and empathy, from supporting online discussions to presenting in public forums and building awareness among healthcare professionals. Her reflection captures the heart of Sahiyo’s work this year: helping individuals grow into compassionate communicators and advocates equipped to support survivors and shift social norms.

Throughout the year, Sahiyo also expanded access to resources by developing short educational videos and translating materials into multiple languages commonly spoken by the communities we serve. These efforts allowed us to reach individuals beyond in-person sessions, ensuring survivors and families could access accurate, trauma-informed information when and where they needed it.

Looking ahead to 2026, Sahiyo remains committed to centering survivor voices, strengthening community-based education, and expanding access to supportive resources. Your generosity made this work possible in 2025, and we are deeply thankful to have you alongside us as we continue this important work in the year ahead.
