Plants and Seeds: New Season and New Beginnings

By Jamila Bargach | Executive Director

Frail but SO powerful - New Buds of Plants
Frail but SO powerful - New Buds of Plants

The dry sumer months were a moment of rest for Agdal Id Aachour, many of our plants have withered  and the seeds are ripe.  The farm manager has proceeded with weeding (employed aftewards as additional vegetation cover for plants), and now the action under way is the replanting of ridges with the condtionned grains:  this is the third and final generation of grains and many of the participating farmers have volunteered for this action. Manure is donated by the same local household families benefiting from the seed-library project. Today, the conditioned grains are distribued and exchanged among the local farmers who no longer purchase market F1 grains that require special treatment regimes. Our small initiative has created larger awareness of the unique and sustainable quality of the local heirloom grains and the traditional agricultural means of storing and reproducing them. We look forward to expanding our network and sharing all of this information with our donors.  Thank you for participating in the launch of a larger food security in Southwestern Morocco.
