Dear GlobalGiving Supporter,
Greetings from Honduras! I sincerely hope that you’re doing well and staying healthy.
When I last wrote we were working with our local partners to survey the damage in the communities where we work caused by Hurricanes Eta and Iota. One big challenge that resulted from the heavy winds and rains, was that some communities were cut off from access to potable water as large rocks, silt, and heavy erosion destroyed the gravity-fed water systems that supply their communities.
Since my last update, I am pleased to report we have repaired the water system that supplies 6 communities in La Hicaca and El Nance. I recently spoke with Dona Julia, the leader of one of the village water councils (Juntas Administradoras de Agua) we support. She and her community are incredibly grateful for the support we were able to provide. It was a lot of hard work from our local staff and community members, but we got the job done!
I’m also currently working with a local high school, to prepare soil to grow seedlings for reforestation. The project aims to tackle deforestation in key watersheds. The goal is also to produce 15,000 trees to be planted in the communities of Santa Bárbara and Tejeras.
I work with these communities day in and day out. I know how much they appreciate the positive impact you are making in their lives and on their watersheds and forest through your support of EcoLogic. If you have any questions or comments, please get in touch with me at ceuraque@ecologic.org.
In solidarity,
Carlos Duarte Euraque, Program Officer, EcoLogic Honduras
