Dear GlobalGiving Supporter,
Greetings from Honduras! I hope your year is off to a great start.
For us, it has been busy. When I last wrote we had just had a heavy impact from back-to-back hurricanes Eta and Iota. We were working with our local partners to survey the damage in the communities where we work. One big challenge that resulted from the heavy winds and rains, was that some communities were cut off from access to potable water.
Early in March, I went with our local partner, AJAASSPIB, the Association of Community Water Councils of Pico Bonito to evaluate one of the main water systems affected. These are simple gravity-fed systems that deliver water to several communities. Thanks to you and other EcoLogic supporters, we are currently working to make repairs and upgrades so that these communities will once again be able to get potable water in their villages and homes.
We are also getting started with our 2021 reforestation initiative to make sure degraded areas of the watershed are restored and can continue providing water and other environmental services in the long term.
We are extremely grateful for your partnership. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and keeping you updated on progress made as we continue to navigate these uncertain times.
In solidarity,
Carlos Duarte Euraque, EcoLogic Program Officer, Honduras
