Dear GlobalGiving Supporter,
Greetings from Honduras, friends! I sincerely hope that you are staying safe and healthy.
Since I last wrote to you, my country has continued to navigate the global pandemic. In addition, we were recently hit by two back-to-back hurricanes--Eta and Iota--which have caused significant flooding, devastated people's homes, cut off access to potable water, and damaged agricultural production. Roads and bridges have been destroyed and electricity and communications have been inconsistent, thus I apologize I was not able to send this report sooner.
I am currently working with our local partners to survey the damage in the communities where we work. No loss of life has been reported and for that we are grateful. I will continue to keep you posted.
With our local partner the Alliance of Municipalities of Central Atlántida (MAMUCA), we have been working to establish home gardens to have an immediate, tangible impact on the health and wellbeing of rural communities in need during the ongoing pandemic. These home gardens are providing a source of food and ensuring a greater diversity of nutrition to supplement families’ diets which are becoming more and more limited due to the crisis. I am including a few pictures and a video for you.
We are extremely grateful for your partnership in supporting this community-based project in support of conservation and self-sufficiency. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and keeping you updated on progress made as we navigate these uncertain times.
In solidarity,
Victor Daniel Escobar
