Since our last report in July, the devastating floods that struck Nepal in August have brought new challenges to vulnerable communities. In this update, we share Mumbai Smiles’ wider emergency response and the commitment to safety, dignity and emotional support that connects this work with the mission of the Pariwartan Day Center.
Our teams in Nepal witnessed the impact firsthand: families lost homes and essential belongings, while facing the shock and distress of a sudden disaster. Responding meant addressing both immediate material needs and the need for emotional support.
Our teams began providing assistance almost immediately after the floods. As reported in our September emergency update, this response included:
Two psychological support workshops for 127 people, including 48 children, in Nuwakot and Dhading, two areas severely affected by the floods.
Essential supplies for 74 families headed by single mothers, helping them meet immediate needs during a particularly difficult time.
Educational and recreational kits for 18 children, providing materials for drawing and play to help them express feelings that were difficult to put into words.
Our wider community of members and donors contributed €5,155 to the Nepal emergency response. This solidarity has supported relief efforts and will help us continue assisting vulnerable families.
The need for safe spaces, emotional care and dependable support networks also lies at the heart of the Pariwartan Day Center in Kathmandu. The project’s goal remains to support 100 women experiencing sexual exploitation, offering a place to rest and be heard, alongside access to psychosocial support, legal guidance and vocational training.
Through our work in Nepal, we remain committed to helping women and families find safety, rebuild confidence and access opportunities for a more independent future.
Thank you for supporting Pariwartan and standing with women working towards a life free from exploitation.
