Dear Friends
With the Easter Sunday passing by we would like to take this opportunity to thank our donors for the generous support for progressing towards our goal of safe motherhood and pregnancy for pregnant mothers in India especially among the poor couples in India.
So far, we have successfully reached out to 103 poor pregnant mothers with safe delivery at hospitals along with all necessary medical care during pregnancy and after delivery. Also, this quarter we have welcomed 20 pregnant women through the traditional Godhbharai Ceremony (Baby Shower) at our Merrygold Health Network.
In this report, we would like to share one such case of 21-year-old Mamta, a slum dweller who lives with her husband Sanjeev- a factory labor. The living condition of Sanjeev and Mamta is appalling. A couple of years ago Mamta and Sanjeev have lost their first child during the seventh month of pregnancy due to complications and untimely medical consultation sort. This was the second time the couple was expecting and was equally worried about Mamta’s pregnancy and further lack of money added to their woes to seek proper medical consultation.
Mamta Shares: “I was 3 months pregnant and was unable to do my household chores. I had a complicated pregnancy earlier and have already lost our first child. Seeing my condition my neighbor shared her experience with MGHN facility where she has delivered. She introduced me and my husband to Vidya Devi, Merrytarang didi of our community. Didi helped me to enroll for free services and delivery at MGHN facility. This instilled a ray of hope for both me and my husband that this time we would be able to see and hold our child alive whom we have lost last time due to complications and lack of medical consultations. I am thankful to Didi and Merrygold Hospital staff for helping me and my baby survives this pregnancy.
With the success of this collaboration, we hope to continue our efforts in reaching out to 500 poor women towards safe motherhood under Global Giving sponsored Safe deliveries initiative through your generous funding support.
